Mike Shuler & Family – Founder of Silver Kings Against Cancer
– Does whatever needed to make Silver Kings the best it can be…and
honored to do so. Sacrifices include many countless hours of
networking; missed days from work; financial obligations including
hotel fees, food/drink expenses, gasoline charges, boat maintenance and
repair costs; and entertainment fees.
Brian Orr & Marci Dacus – Brian is a Silver Kings Co-Founder. Brian and Marci fly in from Dallas, Texas to participate each and every year. To participate, Brian and Marci sacrifice 3 days from work; incur financial obligations including air fare, hotel fees, rental car fees, food/drink expenses, gasoline charges, and professional guide fees. Brian also brings several participants from Texas each year with him to help support the cause. A life-long best friend, Brian and his soon to be lovely wife Marci are our most special guests…without them we would not exist.
David Schleissing & Pingsource, Inc. – Silver Kings Administrator; David provides all technical services for the Tournament, including crucial marketing/advertising duties such as website design and maintenance. David’s hard work today has made the Tournament “official” and “authentic”…the “real deal”. David also works hard to bring participants to the events. To participate, in addition to the hours of technical services, David sacrifices 3 days from work and incurs financial obligations including hotel fees, food/drink expenses, gasoline charges, and boat maintenance/repair costs. David also brings several participants each year with him to help support the cause. Due to personal issues David was unable to fish with us this year but will be back in 2009. We look forward to having David and his great fishing partners on the water with us. David’s services are golden to us…without him we would not be as strong as we are today.
Kevin, Kristi, and Joshua Young – Kevin, Kristi and Josh are my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew…too bad for them don’t you think? Kevin, Kristi and Josh have been a team since Silver Kings inception. To participate, they provided cash to pay for the replica tarpon trophies; they sacrificed 3 days from work and school; incurred financial obligations including hotel fees, food/drink expenses, gasoline charges, and boat maintenance repair costs. Kevin and Josh were our first father and son tag-team, so they have a special place in our hearts…without them we would not be what we are today.
Willie Smithermann & JAEE Environmental Services – Wow how lucky we are. Willie and JAEE have been supporting Silver Kings since our inception...not only my great friend, but an original supporter of the cause with a heart of gold. For the 2008 Tournament, Willie and JAEE provided money to pay for the first and second place replica tarpon trophies. These contributions provided the winning anglers a trophy of a lifetime for their hard work and good luck. Unable to fish in the Tournament this year due to an extremely busy schedule, Willie fished with me and my oldest son Steven the day before the tournament just so he could be a part of the cause. Willie sacrificed a day of work, in addition to many costs for fuel, food, etc. We are so thankful to have Willie and JAEE on-board with us. Willie’s friendship is golden to me…without him we would not be what we are today. I don’t know of anyone with a bigger/better heart and I am very proud to be his friend.
Tim Combs & Scott Janashak/Fueling Components, Inc. – Wow!!! What a sponsor to have. Tim and Scott with Fueling Components are new members of the Silver Kings team. For the 2008 Tournament, they contributed funds to the Hospital directly, as well as procedes used towards a blind raffle for a fishing reel donated by our friends at Bass Pro Shops. Tim and Scott also provided cash to the Tournament to assist in paying for the replica tarpon trophies. To participate, Tim and Scott sacrificed 3 days from work and incurred financial obligations including hotel fees, food/drink expenses, gasoline charges, and professional guide fees. Tim and Scott are also working to bring several participants each year with them to help support the cause. They also are responsible for sponsors such as Salt Life and C&H Lures. We are so thankful to have Tim and Scott on-board with us…these are standup guys and their services are golden to us…without them we would not be what we are today. Congratulations to Scott and his second place finish…the 2008 second place trophy is yours and well deserved…enjoy it…hang it in the bedroom to keep the wife happy!
Roger Combs, Sr. & Salt Life - Wow!!! What a sponsor to have. For the 2008 tournament, Mr. Combs and Salt Life provided us with 30 short-sleeve, custom embroidered Silver Kings Against Cancer shirts and 30 custom embroidered Silver Kings Against Cancer visors for each of our participants. Mr. Combs & Salt Life also provided Salt Life accessories for all participants. These contributions provided each participant with several customized gifts for their efforts. In addition to the gifts, Mr. Combs provides Silver Kings with an abundance of knowledge and experience unmatched by most. Mr. Combs does not know it, but he is considered the “Godfather” of the Silver Kings Family. We are thankful to have Mr. Combs and Salt Life on-board with us. These services are golden to us…without Mr. Combs we could not provide our participants with such fine gifts.
Roger Combs, Sr. & C&H Lures, Inc. - Wow!!! What a sponsor to have. For the 2008 tournament, Mr. Combs and C&H Lures, Inc. provided us with 30 stainless steel filet knives; 30 C&H Bomber Lures; and 30 custom Silver Kings Against Cancer captain’s bait buckets. We are so thankful to have Mr. Combs and C&H Lures on-board with us. These services are golden to us…without them we would be a fraction of what we now are proud to be.
Scott Welch & Columbia Sportswear – Wow!!! That’s right…Columbia Sportswear! What a sponsor to have. Scott and Columbia have supported us for the 2007 and 2008 Tournaments. For the 2008 Tournament, Scott and Columbia provided us with 30 long-sleeve, sun protected fishing shirts for each of our participants. This contribution provides each participant with a nice gift for their efforts and keeps them safe from harmful sun exposure. We are so thankful to have Scott and Columbia on-board with us. Alan & Michael Orr – Alan and Michael are a father-son angling team that flew from Dallas, Texas to participate this year…bringing with them a family donation of in the form of cash for the Hospital. To participate, Alan and Michael sacrificed 3 days from work and school; incurred financial obligations including air fare, hotel fees, rental car fees, food/drink expenses, gasoline charges, and professional guide fees. Alan also brings a participant or two from Texas each year with him to help support the cause. Alan and Michael are our first father son tag-team from out of state so they have a special place in our hearts…without them we would not be what we are today.
Robert & Marsha Orr – Robert and Marsha are lifelong friends of my family. For the 2008 Tournament, Robert drove all the way from New Braunfels, Texas (18 hours) to be a part of the event…with a badly injured knee to keep him entertained…WOW…now that’s special. To participate, Robert sacrificed an entire week of work and incurred financial obligations including hotel fees, food/drink expenses, gasoline charges, as well as a dinner or two for everyone. Robert and Marsha also contributed cash directly to the Hospital. Robert and Marsha are golden to my family…they have been the best of friends for as long as I can remember and have supported us through the most difficult times of our lives. Without them we would not be what we are today…these are special people.
Richard & JoAnn Hathaway – Richard and JoAnn are a husband and wife team that fly in from Dallas, Texas every year to participate in the Silver Kings cause. Having never met me or my father Clark prior to the first event in 2006, it amazes me to have Richard and JoAnn an integral part of this cause. Richard is the most die-hard fisherman I have met in a long time…devoted to the silver monster. Richard studies and excels at the game while his lovely wife JoAnn enjoys Sanibel’s beauty and sun. To participate, Richard and JoAnn, by far, sacrifice more financially than any other participants in Tournament history. To begin with, they provided cash to the Hospital; cash to help pay for the replica tarpon trophies; they both sacrifice several days from work; incur financial obligations including air fare, hotel fees, rental car fees, food/drink expenses, gasoline charges, and professional guide fees. Richard and JoAnn are great people and have a very special place in our hearts…without them we would not be what we are today.
Rick Hardy & Unique Species, Inc. – Rick and his company have provided our replica tarpon trophies for the Tournament since inception. One of the more interesting people I have ever met, Rick’s love for nature shines through in his work/art. Rick is another individual that we did not know until after we started Silver Kings. I contacted Rick, explained what we were doing for the children and he could not wait to help us out. In a business where it is hard to put a price tag on the beauty revealed in his artwork, Rick excels at it and does so in an extremely generous manner. A quick glance at his website gallery will tell the tale of his love for the world’s creatures and a glance into Rick’s personality tells the tale of a good man with a big heart for children. I look forward to each May so I can visit Rick at his home and talk about the past year’s event.
Bob Rose Show & The Sky 97.3 Radio – Bob Rose and his wonderful family have become friends of ours through years of youth baseball activities. Bob’s son Robbie and my oldest son Steven played ball against one another for years now, but through the years we have developed a sound relationship. Bob is one of the most generous guys I have ever known…spending the majority of his free time and work time doing “the right things”. Whether it’s promoting the Children’s Miracle Network, promoting local charitable events, coaching baseball, or whatever Bob is involved with at the time, you can guarantee that he is going to be passionate about it and will give it his everything. I don’t know of anyone that spends more time doing things for the community than Bob. Bob supports Silver Kings each year by promoting the Tournament via his morning FM radio show that spans most of north central Florida. I can’t thank Bob enough for continuing to support my agendas. We hope to have Bob and Robbie on the water soon and look forward to working with him for 2009.
Mark Klingbeil & Bass Pro Shops/Worldwide Sportsman – Yeah that’s right Bass Pro Shops and Worldwide Sportsman. Can you believe it? I sometimes can’t! But we are lucky enough to have these wonderful people on the Silver Kings team. How did this happen? I sent some photos of our 2007 event to Worldwide Sportsman because one of their products showed up in several of the photos…thinking maybe they could use the photos for their benefit. Instead, I received a call from Mark that I will never forget…a call that makes me see the hope that can be generated by the fruits of our labor. Mark has a story so special that it is hard to not get emotional when contemplating. You see, Mark and his family have benefited directly from events like our Silver Kings Tournament. Without getting personal, Mark and his family have seen first hand what fundraising can do for families/children in need of expert healthcare. I am not going to tell Mark’s story to you, but if you ever need a heartwarming story that will make you understand how special family is, please contact Mark via our sponsor page links. For the 2008 event, Mark and Bass Pro Shops provided us with a Penn International Big Game fishing reel that we were able to silent raffle off for the Hospital. Thanks so much Mark for being with us…we love you buddy.
Ellyn Cavin & Gate Petroleum Company – Ellyn is a long-time friend and her employer Gate Petroleum Company are new members of the Silver Kings team. Ellyn participated as an angler during the 2008 event, narrowly missing a second place finish by a few inches. To participate, Ellyn sacrificed 3 days from work; incurred financial obligations including hotel fees, food/drink expenses, gasoline charges, and entertainment fees. Ellyn and Gate have signed on to be annual participants…can we be any luckier? We are so pleased to have them on board and with them we will be even better than we are today.
